Social policy VS political toxicity

The social face of the ND government and the policies that highlighted and strengthened it, the government wants to promote in the next period, in view of the long pre-election period in which the country seems to have entered a long time ago – regardless of when the polls will be held – and in front of the gray prospect of a difficult winter, heralded by the energy crisis and the precision, which are already plaguing the whole old continent.

As the Prime Minister very clearly explained from the floor of the Parliament, the government also wants to clean up the cloudy political landscape caused by the toxicity of the political confrontation, which is attributed exclusively to the official opposition and for this reason, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, addressing SYRIZA, called on him to overcome the climate of toxicity which, as he said, has unfortunately now eroded all political dialogue and “send a message of unity against this ever-increasing toxicity of public discourse”.

In fact, on the occasion of the anniversary of the restoration of the Republic, the Prime Minister spoke of an opportunity to restore its environment as well, at a time of very difficult external conditions, “which do not allow internal wounds to open” and remarked “we need unity and stability . We don’t need vulgarity, we need decency and sensitivity. Not out of hypocrisy. In all these we are judged every day. And let us, then, preserve the political confrontation before it descends into a carnage of vulgarity. Otherwise you can be sure that the Democracy itself will once again ostracize those who in practice undermine it” he concluded, closing his speech and his call to SYRIZA.

The mark of the government’s priorities against political toxicity was also given by the government representative criticizing the attitude of SYRIZA towards current issues, driven by Koumoundourou’s position in the Lignadis case. “When 2022 political opposition leader claims that someone is being released as a crony of power, this is the definition of toxicity in political life” said Mr. Economou. But he explained that the government will not follow the path, emphasizing that “the government will not follow this toxicity, this vulgarity, this descent. It will look at its work, it will look at the completion of the government’s work, the consistency of its commitments towards Greek society, the need to support society in the great difficulties faced by the citizens due to the successive crises and the introduced precision and of course the continuation of the reforms that they change the image of Greece, strengthen its geopolitical and geostrategic footprint, create jobs and jobs for Greek citizens and conditions of advancement and prosperity for every citizen.

Therefore, in order for the government to communicate these priorities for Greek society, it has started a new cycle of tours in the country, with the aim of highlighting the social work of its three-year-old government, as well as its plan for the completion of the third year. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself begins on Thursday a series of visits to various regions of the country, starting with Epirus, while mixed levels of ministers and parliamentarians will continue to “plough” the country, placing particular emphasis on contact and communication with citizens, their problems and their needs.

The weight that the prime minister places on social policy can also be seen from his decision to place the Medically Assisted Reproduction bill in the Parliament, as he did last week with the Education bill, while the same tactic is expected to be followed in the next period on the occasion of any governmental intervention that will have a social sign and touches the everyday life of citizens.
