Berbock: Greece can count on Germany’s solidarity

Germany’s first female foreign minister refers to Turkey, saying: ‘Military threats between NATO partners not allowed’

“It hurts me to hear how deep the wounds are to this day, which caused not only some financial policy decisions, but also actions of some politicians in the relations between Berlin and Athens, but also in the relations between people” says the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Analena Burbok, in view of her arrival in Greece.

On Friday, Mrs. Burbok will have a meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias.

The first female foreign minister of Germany, speaking to the newspaper Ta Nea, also refers to Turkey: “Military threats between NATO partners are not allowed,” she says and calls on Turkey to respect International Law, while promising Germany’s solidarity with Greece.

He notes that despite the wounds left by the manipulations during the period of the Greek crisis, he wants to make a shift in the future, to joint initiatives for renewable energy sources which becomes even more imperative with the current energy crisis.

Regarding German reparations, Ms Burbock says she sees her visit to Greece as the start of a joint quest to process the past.
