“It is irresponsible, at the given time, but one is consumed by nationalistic delusions,” the prime minister told the American network
A message to Ankara and specifically to the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent through an interview granted to CNN by Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The prime minister referred to the Turkish challenges at all levels, saying that the president of the neighboring country would do well to look at the economy and not think about the revival of a new Ottoman Empire.
“It is better for Erdogan to deal with the Turkish economy, than to revive neo-Ottoman fantasies. Foreign policy should not be used to stimulate national sentiment,” he emphasized.
He added that he wishes to continue the talks with the Turkish side, however, Athens will defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty in every way.
“It is irresponsible, at the given time, but one is consumed by nationalistic delusions. Stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region is necessary, especially at this time,” he said.
Mr. Mitsotakis also repeated on CNN that the elections will be held at the end of the four years.
