“The Mitsotakis government neither wants nor can deal with accuracy. Political change is needed”, Alexis Haritsis and Sokratis Famellos state in their joint statement
“At a time when the entire economy and society is brutally affected by the extreme increases in energy (electricity and fuel), energy and oil companies are defiantly increasing their profitability”, the SYRIZA-PS department heads state in their joint statement , Development, Alexis Haritsis and Energy, Socrates Famous.
Citing today’s front page of the “Editors’ Journal”, they argue: “Greek society is suffering double bleeding, in the cost of energy and fuel from the oligopolistic electricity and petroleum market on the one hand, but also in the excessive taxation of the state on the other, through the high VAT and the corresponding VAT. Today’s publication confirms the excess profits of fuel companies, as did the recent SYRIZA report on the actual excess profits in electricity. Applying a tax on excess profits to energy companies is now a global obligation».
As for our country, the two department heads continue “things are more serious and more infuriating than anywhere else. Today, Greece holds the sad pan-European lead in the cost of gasoline. The Mitsotakis government, however, instead of accelerating the taxation of excess profits, is doing everything it can to cover up the cartels and subsidize the mechanisms of speculation. Even worse, as demonstrated by its recent response to our parliamentary intervention, it does not even carry out the necessary checks on the fuel market to crack down on profiteering».
In conclusion, they argue: “The Mitsotakis government neither wants nor can deal with accuracy. Political change is needed. For there to be decisive government intervention in the market, to return excess profits to society, to finally stop the vicious circle of speculation and precision».
