“We will not tolerate the forfeiture of the Institutions, the deterioration of our Democracy”, stressed Christos Spirtzis.

A subpoena report to the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Isidoros Dogiako for the investigation of the recent incidents of police brutality and arbitrariness was filed by the head of the Citizen Protection Department of the SYRIZA-PS party, Christos Spirtzis.

After filing the petition, Christos Spirtzis made the following statement: We have all watched in the last few days events of police brutality that shame our Republic and exceed the legal limits of state power in a democratic country. Incidents reminiscent of totalitarian regimes. We filed a complaint with the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Isidoros Dogiakos, in order to investigate in depth these unacceptable, anti-democratic, inhumane, far-right events. As we must, we defend Democracy together with the Greek people and the progressive forces of the country us. Unfortunately, the descent of the Mitsotakis government has no limit. They are sending a message to Mr. Mitsotakis and his government that we will not tolerate the forfeiture of the Institutions, the deterioration of our Democracy. We will not tolerate non-compliance with the European and national human rights framework and the United Nations treaty against torture. They are sending a message to Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his government that the responsibilities of far-right elements will not be buried once again with a EDE that does not deliver justice. We send a message to Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his government that their orders, their tolerance or the activity of their party agents in the Greek police is not tolerated, we will not let them continue their protection to far-right elements that have , in addition to disciplinary and criminal responsibilities. The head of the Citizen Protection Department of the SYRIZA PS then analyzed the incidents of police violence of the last few days which led to the filing of the indictment: A protester who has been arrested, is handcuffed and is being led away by a group policemen, he receives a blow in the face, that is, he is tortured. We also refer to violence and the beatings by police officers of photojournalists and a member of the Greek Parliament. We are referring to the case where a protester in a wheelchair receives chemicals. We are referring to cases such as the one in Thessaloniki where a fellow citizen was insulted, arrested and injured in the shoulder under the pretext of cutting him air to the policeman who was in a patrol car. I think these things are too heavy for a Republic.

Finally, when asked to comment on today’s front page of the Editors’ Journal regarding surveillance, Christos Spirtzis emphasized: Mr. Mitsotakis is absolutely exposed and this is proven by the institutional changes and the sequence of revelations and events that have occurred. Let us remember that he changed the law and took the National Intelligence Service under his authority, while subsequently changing the institutional framework for to be able to put the person he likes as commander without him having the formal qualifications. Mr. Mitsotakis has not responded to the continuous announcements but also to our questions in parliament regarding the revelations of the Journal of Editors about the surveillance. He then expelled almost half EYP while he did not give any response to the revelations of the inside story in relation to the monitoring of Mr. Koukakis. And now we have reached the point where a political leader is being monitored with the same software and the prime minister who is in charge does not give explanations. Mr. Mitsotakis owes a lot answers to questions that have been asked in the three years that ND has been in government for the monitoring and action of the National Intelligence Service.
