“In their attempt to justify the diversion they have devised, they are bringing back theories of “internal enemies” from the darkest times of Greek history,” says the official opposition
Fire against Charalambos Athanasios is unleashed SYRIZA, asking the prime minister to dismiss him on the occasion of his statements on the Parliament channel.
“The parliamentarian of the ND, vice president of the Parliament and former Minister of Justice Mr. Charalambos Athanasiou, in a crescendo of intolerance, stated in his interview that the surveillance of Greek Muslim MPs is justified for reasons of national security,” SYRIZA states in a statement.
“Mr. Athanasiou should have known that “national security” refers to the intervention of a third country in the internal affairs of Greece or participation in criminal activities. It does not and cannot concern the religion of Greek citizens or parliamentarians. Mr. Athanasiou essentially claims that those who are not Orthodox Christians are nationally dangerous.”
“In reality, Mr. Athanasiou stated unequivocally what Mr. Mitsotakis hinted at in his speech, attempting to cover up the dangerous actions of his Government with references to national security and “dark forces”.
“In their attempt to justify the diversion they have devised, they are bringing back theories of “internal enemies” from the darkest times of Greek history,” notes the official opposition.
“Mr. Mitsotakis owes to send today even Mr. Athanasiou. Otherwise, he will prove that he himself is the submitter of such unacceptable statements,” he concludes.
