Under the slogan “Change is the truth” with the sun and the name of PASOK at the top behind the speaker, Andreas Loverdos, candidate for the leadership of the Movement for Change, presented at a press conference his plan for the rebirth of the party and the wider space. At the same time, he strongly criticized the government for turning a blind eye to those who are not vaccinated, as well as SYRIZA as it is afraid and late, while making special reference to the initiatives of Archbishop Ieronymos. He also accused the government of doing nothing to deal with the floods from the devastating summer fires.
From the very beginning, he stated that he speaks as a PASOK candidate and presented “a set of positions and proposals capable of shaping those conditions so that our party has a decisive role in 21st century Greece, so that our party becomes the progressive protagonist that is missing from Greek political scene “, as he specifically stated. He repeated how from the same night of his election the name of the party will be PASOK and “on December 6 the sun rises again”.
“On December 5, we do not only elect a president.
On December 5, we make vital decisions for dilemmas concerning the future of the country and the space:
PASOK or KINAL or KIDISO or something else?
For or in favor of the Prespa Agreement, as a model of management and some of the problems we have with Turkey?
Progressive government with SYRIZA? “Will they make the tyranny of the citizens, the economy and the country by the bureaucracy the number one issue of our party or not?” he mentioned characteristically and noted how he answers “truthfully, not vaguely and not accidentally”.
“We declare PASOK. We voted against the Prespa agreement and do not consider it a model for our relations with Turkey. Not even mentally.
We say no to our existential opponent who is the populist SYRIZA because it is not a progressive party.
And as for our traditional ideological opponent, the Right? Pure: We will become a force for power and we will not give it home.
Besides, none of the six candidates today raises the issue of cooperation with ND, while it itself rules it out “, he stressed and added that he will put” a cut in the looting of the party and its executives by both Tsipras and Mitsotakis “.
The candidate for KINAL leadership also said that the country has no opposition and that it needs a progressive rival of the government. “Our existential opponent is the populist SYRIZA. It is not a progressive party “, he pointed out and added that he addresses all those who have left without caring what they voted for. “No one is excluded, but those who went to ND and SYRIZA and took office, have nothing to do with us. The doors are closed. The citizens are one thing and they are another “, stressed Mr. Loverdos.
Regarding his strong criticism of “progressive governance”, Andreas Loverdos said that Mr. Tsipras received a response from all parties when he first raised it. “The term is currently used by a fellow candidate. “Mr. Tsipras will hear the ‘no’ from me on the same night of my election,” he stressed, adding that SYRIZA is not a progressive party, that it has attempted changes in the institutions and so far has not changed its views.
He set as an electoral goal in the second elections to claim the party to be an official opposition while while on whether the unity is endangered by the intensity of the election campaign, he underlined that he has a strong biography of unity. “The unity of the next day is built by our behavior before the elections”, he said characteristically while noting that the relevant discussions for measures that will ensure unity can take place in the competent body (EDEKAP).
When asked about the criticism that KINAL will turn to ND, if elected, Mr. Loverdos not only categorically denied it but repeated the harsh criticism of SYRIZA, saying: “Mr. Tsipras said that. It was a slander and I answered properly. “Only SYRIZA has chosen to confront me.”
He also said he was open to electronic voting in the by-elections, “as long as they are not postponed” – as he put it, and predicted that the turnout would exceed 212,000 in 2017.
He pledged to form an open, digital, direct democracy party but also a strong representation, where everything will be put two-way in the crisis of the base, with the establishment of electronic internal referendums even for participation or not in government.
He was also asked about the debts of PASOK, where he stated that the existing regulation is transitional and he -if he is elected- will try to make it final.
