“Mitsotakis is the head of the parastatal staff – The revelations so far are only the tip of the iceberg” sources from Koumoundourou say
The Executive Office of SYRIZA PS met today together with the board of KO under the chairmanship of Alexis Tsipras, after everyone took their mobile phones out of the meeting room.
During the meeting, the line that the party will follow in the next period was decided.
1. SYRIZA PS remains steadfast in what it has stated since the first day of the revelations. He has submitted a proposal for holding a pre-day debate in Parliament at the level of Political Leaders, and has requested the immediate convening of the Institutions and Transparency Committee, in order to summon the directly involved Dimitriadis, Kontoleon, and the supervising prosecutor of the EYP, Mrs. Vlachou.
2. SYRIZA PS will vote in favor of the proposal submitted today by PASOK – KINAL for the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry.
3. SYRIZA PS estimates that the absolute responsibility, political and not only, for the surveillance scandal, lies with Mr. Mitsotakis himself. The developments confirm that we are faced with a staff parastatal headed by Mr. Mitsotakis himself.
According to sources from Koumundourou, SYRIZA considers that the prime minister is lying that he did not know, “since his first move in 2019 was to take the EYP directly to the prime minister’s office, and to place his nephew and closest associate in order to organize the circuit of illegal surveillance. He changed the law to be able to put his own person in the EYP, who did not meet the criteria.”
“And later” continue the same sources, “he brought an amendment following the request of the monitored journalist, Mr. Koukakis, to the Anti-Corruption Commission, so that he, as well as anyone else who appealed to the Independent Authority, could not be informed about the monitoring. And then, the government rejected the amendment tabled by SYRIZA PS to cancel the legislative cover-up of surveillance, so that ADAE could inform the citizens that they were being monitored, as was the case until the Mitsotakis amendment”.
4. SYRIZA estimates that Mr. Mitsotakis is trying to gain time, erase the traces of surveillance, illegal and legal, and essentially set up a large cover-up operation.
In this they advocate:
- His refusal to take back the amendment for the HRD so that any citizens being monitored can be informed.
- The operation of cheap distraction with the decision of Mr. Mitsotakis to request an investigation for a period of ten years.
Is there even one citizen who believes that if the Mitsotakis regime had any evidence against the SYRIZA government for similar practices it would not have already brought it to light? Unless the target of Mr. Mitsotakis is not SYRIZA but the practices and manipulations of the previous ND government and Mr. Samaras.
In any case, SYRIZA PS – Koumoundourou’s sources state – has nothing to fear, not even from the ability of a ruthless and panicked regime to fabricate evidence for previous governments, for political and even internal party opponents. However, we call on Mr. Mitsotakis not to attempt such non-existent compensation, which only confirms his guilt.
5. The SYRIZA PS will not vote in the Institutions and Transparency Committee on the placement of Mr. Demiris in the EYP. It is not a cross-party choice, it is the choice of Mitsotakis, who is the mastermind of the scandal and apparently goes with the order to cover up and not clear up the scandal of surveillance, illegal and legal.
6. SYRIZA PS expresses strong concern about the handling of the judicial investigation by the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, as it seems that he is not investigating the major surveillance scandal and the Predator but instead how the circuit was revealed and how the information was leaked for the follow-ups.
7. SYRIZA PS considers that the revelations so far are only the tip of the iceberg. Mr. Mitsotakis acted as the head of a shadowy and uncontrollable parastatal group. For this reason, he considers that there are other political figures, either from the opposition or from the government itself, who have been targeted by these parastatal surveillances.
Indicative of Mitsotakis’ guilt is that 10 days after Kathimerini’s report that at least 7-8 more politicians were being monitored, there has been no refutation. So the question remains: Which other politicians, ministers, journalists and businessmen were being monitored by the Mitsotakis sub-state?
