In his statement, Haris Kastanidis notes that today’s statements by Demiris reveal a major political issue for the government and its investigation has absolute priority.
PASOK is once again asking for the convening of the Committee on Institutions and Transparency to precede the debate in Parliament at the level of leaders, so that explanations can be given by the new commander of the EYP for today’s reports in today’s hearing.
In his statement, the PASOK member of parliament and member of the committee, Haris Kastanidis, notes that today’s statements by Demiris reveal a major political issue for the government and that his aging has absolute priority.
Kastanidis statement in detail:
“Today at the Institutions and Transparency Committee, PASOK-Movement for Change refused to provide a positive opinion to its new chosen Mr. Mitsotakis for the position of the new commander of the National Intelligence Service.
And this is because we are going through a period of institutional deviance with the terrible things that have happened in the offense of Democracy and the rule of law, and therefore a prime minister who is interested in correcting his mistakes and those committed, should come to an agreement with the opposition parties and within a framework of consensus to appoint a person who has wider agreement and support to carry out his duties.
Before the meeting of the Institutions and Transparency Committee was over, a major political issue arose for it government from the answers given by the candidate for the National Intelligence Service, Mr. Demiris, regarding the possible monitoring of political figures at this time.
This major political issue assumes paramount importance and has absolute priority in its investigation. This is precisely why PASOK-Movement for Change, addressed to all political parties, with a sense of national duty and institutional responsibility, requests that the immediate convening of the Committee on Institutions and Transparency be preceded by the pre-scheduled debate in Parliament at the level of party leaders, in order for the current EYP commander to come again and give explanations for what we called a major political issue.
Otherwise, Friday’s debate, without knowing the persons being watched, how, under what conditions and why, will be the occasion for a sterile partisan confrontation, which does not facilitate the revelation of the truth. And above all, the truth will not guide the political parties. However, we assume this responsibility to proceed with institutional decisions that will correct the operation of the EYP and place it on the basis of constitutional order and legality”.
