“Refolding” of Burhan Baran about the Turkish minority in Thrace: “I am completely rebuilding”

by

In his post on Twitter, the PASOK MP called on the Muslims of Xanthi to vote next week for one of the pseudo-muftis candidates.

The PASOK MP “collects it” Burhan Baran, who in his post on Twitter spoke of “Turkish minority” in Thrace and invited the Muslims of Xanthi to vote next week for one of the pseudo-muftis candidates.

After the reactions caused, he hastened to repair with his new post: «I am completely redoing the content of my recent post, which has already been pulled from all my social media accounts. I express my regret for the disturbance and the occasion that, against my will, I gave for negative comments towards me and above all, towards the faction I represent as Member of Parliament for Xanthi”.

He added that he absolutely and unreservedly respects the Constitution of Greece and the Greek legislation, which specifically regulates the institution of the mufti, then also the recent amendment, which as a PASOK MP I publicly supported in the Parliament.

The Muslim minority is recognized by the Greek State, without any exception or discrimination in terms of individual and political rights“, he pointed out.

And he concluded by pointing out that “henceforth and in order to avoid any misunderstanding of my positions or my intentions, I declare that I will not participate in any process that encourages the opposite of the above».

An announcement on the matter was also issued by New Democracyin which he stated that he is shame A Greek MP essentially calls the minority “Turkish” and incites Muslim citizens to participate in the elections for the new pseudo-mufti of Xanthi, i.e. the one not recognized by the state.

The ND’s announcement in detail

“The Muslim PASOK member of parliament in Xanthi, Burhan Baran, in his public post, declares himself a member of the “Advisory Committee of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace” (BTTA Danışma Kurulu), announces the pseudo-muftis candidates and invites Greek Muslims to come to the “elections” in 9/9. Furthermore, he boldly declares that he will stand by whoever is elected!

It is a shame that a Greek MP essentially calls the minority “Turkish” and encourages Muslim citizens to participate in the elections for the new pseudo-mufti of Xanthi, that is, the one the state does not recognize.

The president of PASOK to take a stand: Why is he detaining a member of parliament who recognizes the minority as “Turkish”? Do PASOK respect Greek legislation or not? Do they respect or not the legal procedure for electing a mufti, which the Parliament voted on a few weeks ago?”
