Hatzidakis on the attack on his house: First was Mr. Tsipras, then Rouvikonas

“First was Mr. Tsipras. Who charged me for the increase in electricity prices all over Europe!” said the Minister of Labor

“I only have to say to the Rubicones that I am not afraid of them,” comments Labor Minister Kostis Hatzidakis, regarding the attack that took place last night outside his house by members of the Rubicon.

In his post he says:

“First was Mr. Tsipras. Who charged me the increase in electricity prices across Europe! They were followed by SYRIZA officials and trolls who are close to this party, on the internet. Yesterday it was the turn of the Rubicon motor units who, for the second time in a few months, in their well-known “romantic” way, demonstrated the same views outside my house.

“Electricity prices increased tenfold, while Hatzidakis was telling us that they would remain stable.” When did Hatzidakis say them? In 2019, during the effort to save PPC, which actually did NOT lead to an increase in tariffs, except for an infinitesimal one, as I had already noted. If there is one who believes otherwise, let him prove it!

I have only to say to the Rubicones that I am not afraid of them. Just as I was not afraid when I received the well-known attack on the Constitution in 2010 (a photo of which various “progressives” are happily posting on the Internet). I continued on my way, defending my own liberal ideas. And I will continue my journey with moderation and dignity. I have no other dialogue with them. Me with the principles I firmly support, them with their hatred. Everyone with what they have.

But I have more to say to SYRIZA. It has been done – even by this party’s standards – with falsehood, toxicity and cynicism. They now function as a religious sect. The end justifies the means. They use every lie and do not hesitate to smear every political opponent for a handful of votes. Many times even with a policy that combines lies with hate.

From them began the “argumentation” of the Rubicon. Everyone is talking, first of all Mr. Tsipras, about Greece which is supposedly “the first in Europe in terms of electricity prices”, while the official figures of the Household Energy Price Index for Europe (HEPI) published all the last months show a complete different picture. Greece in July, for example, was in 21st place in retail prices in the 33 countries of Europe in total, while Spain (a model country for them) was in 16th place and Portugal (also a model country) in 14th place. That is, more expensive than us!

And this, because of the policies that the government has implemented and which are basically based on the resources of the Energy Transition Fund – mainly with money coming from the increased fees paid by power producers for the emission of pollutants – on the strictest taxation of the surplus profits of the producers, but and the discounts of PPC which, because of this reason, has reduced its profitability to zero. SYRIZA and Rubicon are using, as I noted, my statement of 2019 that the current will not increase, as if I had the hereditary gift of predicting that two and a half years later Putin would invade Ukraine!

With all the known consequences of the skyrocketing of natural gas and electricity prices internationally. SYRIZA is certainly not doing it out of political naivety. He does this because lying and smearing his opponents has become second nature to him. In the same shameless way, they distort my statements about dealing with malfunctions in the wholesale energy market that we attempted at the end of 2020. After all, the reactions, especially of the producers of Renewable Energy Sources – who were affected by this policy – were public and speak for themselves. Public, too, were my warnings to electricity producers to respect the functioning of the market then, because otherwise they would immediately suffer the consequences. And the producers may also have been annoyed at the time, but they adapted anyway.

From 2020 onwards, however, in the field of energy, an economic century has intervened. Natural gas prices have gone up 10 to 15 times because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. That is why several European governments have revised and are revising their policy on many issues, such as de-lignitization, which is naturally affected throughout Europe, due to these unpredictable developments. And the European Union itself, after showing great boldness in dealing with the crisis, finally seems to be listening to the Draghi-Mitsotakis proposals for the operation of the electricity and natural gas market in the 27 member countries. Meanwhile, our own government has of course taken substantial and brave measures to alleviate the problem. Much more substantially than almost all EU countries, if we also take into account the strength of the economy.

This is the truth! Some SYRIZA fanatics may not understand her and seem ready to parrot whatever the party tells them. But there are others in the official opposition who understand everything, but are not ashamed of anything! And they use the biggest lie for the smallest hope of changing things in their favor. In Greece we are few and we know each other well. The pseudomania of SYRIZA is known to Greek citizens who condemned this party in 2019 and continue to condemn it even in polls published in its friendly media. However, the effort of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to deal with successive crises in the last three years with the greatest possible success is also known, most of the time exogenous, such as the international energy crisis.

You will allow me to say that my route is also known. My targeting by SYRIZA is not unrelated to their exposure to the entire Greek people for the disclosure of the dramatic situation of PPC which we had received on the verge of bankruptcy. It bothers them, because I showed what their policy was at PPC and to what extent they delivered it. In fact, SYRIZA strengthened its competitors – private power producers – with the “infamous” NOME! These independents and defenders of the poor! It also bothers them that the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has ceased to be the bastion for their belligerence against the government. It stopped, because unemployment fell from 17.3% that was handed to us to 11.4% in July. It has stopped, because the minimum wage has already increased by about 10% compared to the SYRIZA period and will of course increase even more in 2023. The Ministry of Labor has stopped being a bastion of their attacks, because only in the 19 months that I have been minister, 400,000 main pensions that are an all-time record.

This government, by doing social policy in practice, is spoiling them. And the only answer they find is more lies, more hate and more slander. But let them not deceive themselves: No matter how many lies they use, no matter how ruthlessly they slander, no matter how many attacks the Rubicon makes, the truth is not hidden and reality will be here to avenge them!

We are moving forward with work. And we let the pseudologists “sink” in their lies. They are hurting themselves, there is no doubt about it. Unfortunately, falsehood, toxicity and hatred are harming the pursuit of all Greeks to move our country forward in these difficult times”.
