Six months earlier than the contractor’s contractual obligation, the improvement project of the “Thermi-Galatista” section on the Thessaloniki-Polygyrou provincial road, 12.5 kilometers long and with a budget of 30 million euros, was handed over to traffic today, with the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Konstantinos Achillea Karamanli notes that: “not only did we tender, contract and complete the project, but we also did something that is rare in the annals. We are giving it to citizens for use, half a year earlier than its original schedule.”
Describing today as a very important day for Halkidiki, Thessaloniki and Macedonia, Mr. Karamanlis reminded that the above-mentioned project had been “swamped” for more than ten years and emphasizing that it is one of the many that are being done and have been launched for the wider region, noted that it was financed by the PEP of Central Macedonia.
“This project is one of the many we are doing in the wider region, because together with the Thessaloniki metro, together with the road connection we are finally making to the port of the city, together with the fly over and all the railway projects that have been launched, Macedonia and Thessaloniki are leaving yesterday behind,” noted the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, underlining that this is a project with a total budget of more than 5 billion euros. “We are talking about projects that are not on the map, but that are implemented and launched”, he emphasized, congratulating all the competent bodies that “ran” with speed the implementation of the “Thermi-Galatista” section on the Thessaloniki-Polygyrou provincial road.
“Today we won yet another battle of the self-evident,” emphasized the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Giorgos Karagiannis, noting “after the delivery of the orphan kilometer in Potidaia of Halkidiki, the state comes and delivers six months earlier a project that ensures and completes the interventions us regarding the road connection to Halkidiki”.
In fact, he pointed out that with today’s traffic delivery, the government succeeds in “regaining a trust between the citizens and the state, given that our planning is carried out based on the timetables we have announced”.
As a “very important section” for the Region of Central Macedonia, the deputy regional governor of Infrastructure of the Region of Central Macedonia, Paris Billias, characterized the improvement project of the “Thermi-Galatista” section, saying that it is a part of the road axis Thessaloniki-Polygyros-Hersonissos Sithonia that wants to built by the district, “to deal with the increased traffic especially in the summer months in an area that is developing rapidly for tourism and the needs for transportation are significant. It is the first step to create this axis.”
In today’s launch of the aforementioned project, the mayor of Thermi, Thodoros Papadopoulos, was also present, who, expressing his satisfaction with the quick completion of the project, noted that at the same time the water supply network was moved, an important intervention for the region.
