The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made public letters sent by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, to Jens Stoltenberg, Josep Borrell and Antonio Guterres in the context of the internationalization of the provocative statements of Turkish officials.
At letters dated September 5, Mr. Dendias quotes verbatim statements by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Greek-Turkish war of 1919-1922.
Speaking to Kutahya and Samsuda, Erdogan said the phrase “we may suddenly come at night” which he has since repeated on an almost daily basis.
The letter also refers to ErdoÄŸan’s derogatory characterizations of the Greeks, whom he called “scumbags”, while reference is also made to threats to attack the shit out of Greece.
In his letter, Mr. Dendias characterizes Erdogan’s statements as “unprovoked, unacceptable and insulting to Greece” and notes that they constitute an escalation of aggressive rhetoric against Greece.
