SYRIZA to IPES: Is the government adopting scenarios for possible Russian involvement in the elections?

A topical question to the Minister of the Interior was submitted by the relevant department head of the SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance, Kostas Zachariadis on the issue of peddling dangerous scenarios for the upcoming national elections.

The main opposition member of parliament points out:

• In a program of the MEGA television station and when asked by the presenter Mr. Nikos Evagelatos, if the government is really afraid of possible involvement of the Russians in the elections in Greece, the journalist Ms. Christina Korai said verbatim: “Of course. And I’ll tell you the plan too. I will tell you some things that are not known. The Minister of the Interior convened meetings with the Directorate of Elections and the company Singular Logic and in fact they discussed not only the Russian fingerprint more broadly, the possibility of voting via scanner was also discussed, that is, the classic paper will not exist… it will be a special ballot, this scanner will he also reads the cross to the MP and the party…”, provoking a reasonable and strong reaction from the presenter, who emphasized that “…if someone is to fear that an attempt will be made to influence the result, it is easier to influence it with electronics than with the little hand…”.
• the irresponsible circulation of scenarios for the involvement of foreign states in national elections creates a climate of intense concern and insecurity among Greek citizens and dynamizes the political scene, while at the same time, it exposes the country internationally and poses serious national risks.
• the leaking of scenarios for voting via scanner without any consultation and information of the Parliament and the parties causes strong suspicion and concern among the Greek citizens.
• The practices of the ND government throughout its tenure, but especially recently in the matter of wiretapping, refer to the regime and authoritarian logic of the Right-wing faction of past decades.

The competent Minister is asked:

1. Does the government adopt the circulating scenarios about Russia’s possible involvement in the upcoming national elections in Greece?

2. Is what Ms. Korai said accurate? Have you convened a meeting with the officers of your Ministry’s Directorate of Elections and considered the possibility of conducting the national elections with electronic voting?
