Wednesday of Papandreou-Archbishop of America: They also visited Agios Nikolaos at Point Zero

The former prime minister referred to the important 100-year anniversary of the founding of the Archdiocese of America and highlighted its role as a unifying factor and cohesive fabric of the diaspora

Archbishop Elpidophoros of America was visited, yesterday afternoon, at the seat of the Archdiocese of America, in New York, by the former prime minister and president of the Socialist International, George Papandreou.

During their meeting, Mr. Papandreou referred to the important anniversary of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Archdiocese of America and highlighted its role as a unifying factor and cohesive tissue of the homogeneity. At the same time, he thanked the archbishop personally for his leadership and his great contribution to the Greek Orthodox community in the USA.

For his part, the Archbishop of America expressed his joy for the visit of Mr. Papandreou, who – as he said – has the deepest and strongest ties with the Greek-American community, and his gratitude for his continuous support both to the diaspora and and to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, of which he has always been an ardent supporter.

Afterwards, Archbishop Elpidophoros, accompanied by Archimandrite Vasilios Drosos and Archpriest Panagiotis Papazafeiropoulos, visited with George Papandreou, who was accompanied by former Secretary of State Dimitris Droutsas, the Holy Church of Agios Nikolaos and a US national pilgrimage in Zero point. There they were welcomed and guided by the head of the church, protopriest Andreas Vythoulkas, the president of the Parish Council, Dimitris Papakostas, the cantor Dimitrios Katsiklis, and the hagiographers of the pilgrimage, Father Loukas and Father Pachomios.
