EU: Support for Ukraine remains steadfast – Storm of reactions against Putin

Both the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the representative of the Commission for Foreign Affairs, Peter Stano, send a tough message to Russia

A storm of reactions in Europe is caused by the announcements of the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, with which he announced a partial mobilization and threatened the West with war.

In an intense style, President of the European Council, Charles Michel sent a clear message via twitter to the Russian president that the European Union is on Ukraine’s side.

“The Kremlin announced mobilization on the International Day of Peace while UN member states work for cooperation, security and prosperity. In this war there is only one aggressor, Russia, and only one country under attack, Ukraine. EU support for Ukraine remains unwavering,” wrote Charles Michel.

Stano: Putin is not interested in peace, but in the escalation of war

“Putin is not interested in peace, but in the escalation of his war,” he stressed for his part the Representative of the Commission for External Affairs Peter Stano asked about the speech of the President of Russia.

In particular, Mr. Stano noted that “this speech and the announcements made, both about the referendums and the military mobilization, are another proof that Putin is not interested in peace, but in the escalation of his war aggression”. At the same time, he underlined that this is “another sign of Putin’s desperation” and added that this aggression has consequences for the whole world, including the population of Russia. The representative of the Commission additionally spoke of a “dangerous nuclear gamble”.

On his part, Mr Chief Representative of the Commission, Eric Mamer referred to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s statements in New York (which were made before Vladimir Putin’s morning speech) underlining that she (Ursula von der Leyen) “confirmed a very firm position that we will never recognize these self-proclaimed referendums organized in territories that have been illegally and barbarically occupied,” adding that “all of Russia’s efforts to change Ukraine’s borders are against the United Nations charter.”

Anti-war organizations are calling on people to take to the streets

The Russian opposition is calling on Russians to take to the streets against Vladimir Putinafter the partial mobilization announced by the Russian president in his televised address in an escalation of the failed criminal war, as the Russian attack on Ukraine and the development of the conflict was called by the imprisoned Russian dissident Alexei Navalny.

THE Navalny stated that Putin is sending more Russians to their deaths for a botched war.”

“It is clear that the criminal war is worsening, escalating, and Putin is trying to involve as many people as possible in it,” said Alexei Navalny in a prison video released by his lawyers. “He wants to immerse hundreds of thousands of people in this blood,” he says, warning of an upcoming “huge tragedy and a huge number of dead.”

Russian anti-war organizations are calling for demonstrations against it conscription notice.

“This means that thousands of Russians – fathers, brothers and husbands – will be thrown into the mincer of war,” announced anti-war coalition Vesna calling on Russians to take to the streets in the country’s major cities. “Now the war has reached every home and every family.”
