Turkey’s dangerous games: Alleged transfer of armored personnel carriers to Lesvos and Samos

by

With photos taken by Turkish drones, Ankara claims that our country is further militarizing the islands.

Ankara escalates the tension dangerously, claiming that Athens militarizes further islands and even publishing photos of her Lesvos and the Samo which were drawn from Turkish drones.

As reported by the SKAI correspondent Manolis Kostidis, the photos in question, which are published in all Turkish media at this time, are said to have been taken on September 18 and show Greek tankers unloading armored fighting vehicles on Lesvos and Samos.

The Turks claim that 23 tanks were landed on Lesbos and 18 on Samos and that they are of the same type as the tanks that the US brought to Alexandroupolis a few weeks ago.

This development is particularly worrying, as only yesterday the Defense Minister Hulusi Akar told Hurriyet that the militarization of the Greek islands renders their sovereignty questionable and gives Turkey the right to self-defense

In the coming days, Turkey can do anything and special attention is needed, warned Manolis Kostidis.

Read characteristic excerpts from the relevant publication of the Hurriyet newspaper:

“It was revealed that Greece violates international law and sent armored vehicles to the islands that have a demilitarized status.
Unmanned aerial vehicles of the Turkish Armed Forces found that Athens sent 23 armored vehicles to Lesvos and 18 to Samos.

“Sources of the Ministry of Defense reports that these images were recorded between September 18 and 21. and show that Greece continues to militarize the islands close to Turkey and violates the demilitarized status of the islands”.

“They emphasize that Greece continues to violate this regime, for many years, it has been installing weapons systems and in the latest actions the wheeled armored vehicles that the US granted to Greece were transferred to replace some others.”
