Satisfaction prevails in the government after the letter sent by Ursula von der Leyen with the Commission’s new positions on the European response to the energy crisis and the ceiling on natural gas.
THE Giannis Oikonomou emphasizes in his statement that the Commission adopts the Greek positions on Energy and vindicates him Kyriakos Mitsotakis for his persistence.
In more detail, the statement of the government representative after the change of course of the Commission, a few hours before the informal summit in Prague:
“The letter of the President of the Commission Ursula von der Leyen to the members of the European Council, justifies the initiatives and the insistence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis that there should be a European response to the energy crisis.
The positions of the President of the Commission for taking drastic initiatives towards energy accuracy, adopting the proposals of Kyriakos Mitsotakis for imposing a ceiling on the price of natural gas of all kinds on the European market, in order to reduce the burden on consumers, must be decisions to make a decisive contribution to lightening the burdens borne by European citizens. Europe must not allow Russia to use energy as a weapon to inflict pain and destabilize European societies.
The President of the European Commission adopts the position, the rhetoric and the arguments of Greece proposed and defended by the Greek Prime Minister for some time as the most effective solution to the energy crisis. This is an important moment and the absolute personal vindication of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. As in the period of the pandemic, Greece is a pioneer in finding effective ways to overcome the problems”.
THE Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his satisfaction via posts on Twitter, stating:
“European Commission President @vonderleyen’s proposal to consider a price cap on the TTF as an emergency measure to address the energy crisis is a very important step in the right direction.
We await discussions at EUCO to design a cap that ensures supply, keeps prices reasonable in the internal market.
It is time to actively support our citizens against Russia’s instrumentalization of energy.”
