“We have clearly stated that Greece is ready to defend its territory, its sovereignty, its sovereign rights, its existence. By all legal means available”
The Minister of Foreign Affairs sends a new message to Turkey, Nikos Dendias from Poland after the new provocative statements of the Turkish Minister of Defense, Hulusi Akar, who launched new threats against Greece.
“Let me be honest. We are not going to be discouraged. But we are not going to indulge in a word contest. We have clearly stated that Greece is ready to defend its territory, its sovereignty, its sovereign rights, its existence. With all the legal means available,” said Nikos Dendias characteristically after the meeting he had with his Polish counterpart, Zbigniew Rau.
“We are pleased to see that the European Union, the US, Germany and our Egyptian friends have come out publicly to denounce Turkish practices. They underlined the self-evident: that the current Tripoli administration has no mandate to sign international agreements,” he added, referring to the Turkish-Libyan memorandum on hydrocarbons.
“Both the previous and the recent “Memorandum of Understanding” signed between the government of Tripoli and Turkey are not only illegal, but also invalid,” stressed Mr. Dendias.
About the war in Ukraine
Nikos Dendias also referred to the discussion they had about the Russian invasion of Ukraine saying: “We discussed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine after the Russian invasion. A conflict that has taken a turn for the worst after the illegal annexation of four Ukrainian provinces by Russia. Greece unequivocally condemned this act and protested to the Russian side. Our policy towards Ukraine is based on three principles: the fundamental principles of International Law, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states, the prohibition of the use of force , the prohibition of the threat of violence. I am so happy that Poland is adamant about following these principles,” said the defense minister.
At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed out that “Greece is ready and willing to participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine, as well as in the preservation of the important cultural heritage of this country” and emphasized that “we would like to help ensure that the historic center of the city of Odessa will be registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in order to create a cultural shield of protection over it.”
For immigration
Another topic discussed was the issue of immigration. Nikos Dendias pointed out: “I condemned the attempts to benefit the situation of those who are looking for a better life. Both Poland and Greece have fallen victim to such “hybrid attacks”. In order to deal with them successfully, solidarity between EU partners is the answer” he concluded.
