The battle of Prague after the new Turkish anti-Hellenic delirium – Two “foreigners” in the same city

The Greek Prime Minister is expected to inform the 27 EU leaders about the increasing Turkish provocation

By Penelope Galliou

Another battle against Turkey’s aggressive crescendo, which has escalated dangerously in recent days, is expected to be fought by Greece today in Prague, starting with the European Political Community Summit and the Greek Prime Minister’s contacts there, as well as tomorrow during the informal Summit of European leaders.

The Greek prime minister is expected to brief the 27 EU leaders on the escalating Turkish provocation, focusing on the dangers stemming from Turkey’s escalating aggressive rhetoric for the wider Eastern Mediterranean region, while noting Greece’s role in defending security and peace in the region.

Despite the fact that the Turkish president is also in the Czech capital, at the moment there is no indication of any form of meeting – official or informal – between the two leaders of Greece and Turkey.

Even spatially, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Tayyip Erdogan, based on the program that the Greek side has in hand, are not expected to “coincide” even in the same thematic panels of the Synod.

War cries from Akar despite international outcry

The “distance” between the two leaders grows even more due to Turkey’s continued aggression, which is no longer part of the well-known inflammatory rhetoric of the Turkish leadership, but resembles war crimes against Greece with an unknown target.

Aggressive escalation peaked unprecedentedly by Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, during his speech to Turkish air force pilots, where he used unprecedented Islamist extremist phraseology, calling on his military audience to become “martyrs” for Turkey if necessary.

“It is impossible to retreat, to retreat, neither on the field nor at the table. There is no setback of a millimeter, everything that needs to be done has been done and is being done.

In particular, our Navy and Air Force have received clear instructions in this regard. It is impossible to show understanding and make concessions in this matter. Regardless of who is behind them, we are determined to do whatever is necessary with the logic of the commando oath ‘let me die, let me be a martyr,’” Hulusi Akar urged.

This extreme vocabulary is fueled even more as Ankara receives continuous and unequivocal international condemnation for its behavior.

As was the case with its decision to revive the illegal Turkish-Libyan memorandum, seeking to “liquidate” it with hydrocarbon exploration in the area of its non-existent reach.

In fact, the immediate and almost simultaneous – with a difference of a few hours – condemnation from the EU, the State Department, Germany and the Foreign Office which clearly stated that the sovereignty of the Greek islands is not in question, combined with the reaction of Egypt and the rejectionist reactions inside Libya itself, instead of curtailing its neighbor’s aggressive rhetoric, seem so far to be working in reverse, reinforcing Turkish exasperation.

What is clear is that Tayyip Erdogan intends to faithfully serve his neo-Ottoman plans and seems determined to continue to ignore the messages coming from all sides. The question that remains unanswered, however, is what he intends to gain from this strategy and how far he is determined to go.

In any case, government sources emphasize that Greece remains calm and behaves with the self-confidence of a country that has International Law on its side, has allies on its side and sufficient deterrent power to respond to any challenge.

“We have to be vigilant. We cannot be politically or historically naive. We cannot take lightly this prolonged provocation on the part of Turkey. On the other hand, we remain calm, we have no reason to panic, nor to be terrified, precisely because we have sufficient political power and sufficient deterrent capacity, so that we can effectively face any challenge” said the government representative.
