G. Plakiotakis: Turkey’s tolerance of traffickers’ rings cost human lives

by

“Turkey must respect its agreement with the European Union. As long as it does not, it will put human lives at risk,” said the Minister of Shipping

The Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Mr. Yiannis Plakiotakis, regarding the two incidents of search and rescue in Kythira and Lesvos, stated:

“Once again, Turkey’s tolerance of the rings of unscrupulous traffickers cost human lives. As long as the Turkish Coast Guard does not prevent their actions, traffickers pile unfortunate people, without safety measures, into boats that cannot withstand the weather conditions, putting their lives in mortal danger.

The superhuman efforts of the officers of the Coast Guard, the Navy, the Air Force, the Fire Brigade, the Greek Police and volunteers saved dozens of our fellow citizens yesterday, in Kythira and Mytilini. Unfortunately, not everyone. Turkey must respect its agreement with the European Union. As long as he doesn’t, he will put human lives at risk.”

We remind you that in the shipwreck in the sea area Butterfly of Thermi in eastern Lesbos, 16 women of African origin lost their lives.

In the Diakofti Kytheraa sailing ship sank in which, according to the information the authorities have so far, 95 people were on board.

Both businesses are ongoing.
