Mitarakis to SKAI: Our country knows and can deal with Evros-type incidents

“Some people think there should be no borders. There is a clear differentiation between the European left and the European centre-right”

There is increased immigration pressure at the Greek border, but arrivals are low, the Minister of Migration Policy told SKAI Notis Mitarakis. “This year we will have the second lowest arrivals of the 10-year period, we estimate around 14,000 arrivals,” he clarified.

Mr. Mitarakis characterized “weakness by Turkey’s choice” to implement the agreement with the EU on immigration. Greece respects the provisions of the Treaty of Lausanne, Turkey must look at how many provisions it does not apply, he remarked.

Our country knows and can to deal with Evros-type incidents, the matter was discussed and pointed out in KYSEA.

The fence will extend to the entire length of the Evros, Mr. Mitarakis also noted, referring for further announcements to the competent Minister of Citizen Protection Takis Theodorikakos.

“There is an ideological differentiation in the EU whether there are borders or no borders… Some people believe that we should not have borders, that borders should be open, and that whoever wants to can go from anywhere to any place. This is not Greece’s position. Greece has borders. There is a clear differentiation between the European left and the European centre-right” commented the minister.
