Announcement of the Turkish Ministry of the Interior against Notis Mitarakis – They are reaching the point of giving… lessons on human rights

Every limit of insolence and provocation is now exceeded by Turkish propaganda. With his announcement the Turkish Ministry of Interiorattacks the Noti Mitarakis and they completely distort reality, accusing Greece of repelling immigrants, confiscating their belongings, while characterizing our country as “desperate”.

In more detail, the announcement states that Notis Mitarakis “whose country is often on the agenda for inhumane treatment of immigrants, once again applies tactics to manipulate, using photos of naked immigrants for which there is neither location nor date”.

“We know very well how desperate Greece is, after our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s speech to the UN General Assembly depicting Greece’s inhumane tactics. It is very obvious that Greece is trying to cover up the systematic illegal pushbacks they are systematically doing by confiscating all the migrants’ belongings – including their money, phone, ID and passports – throwing them overboard, taking all their clothes and shoes, beating the naked with clubs, injuring them with electric shock devices, shooting them with rubber bullets or putting them in worn-out lifeboats.

This inhumane treatment and the actions of Greece have been going on for years. Images and international reports of boats being punctured, migrants being abused and even being shot to death. Just last month they punctured the boat of a group of migrants – including babies – who were trying to reach Italy from Lebanon. Having lost all their valuables, these people were put to death. The 9 month old Asım and his 4-year-old brother, Abdülvahap, died as a result of this inhumane treatment. Now, Greece is unable to give an explanation, on the world stage, for these inhumane actions and is trying to put the blame on Turkey through slander.”

He concludes by saying: “Although there has been intense pressure on Greece for what it is doing, it has not taken a single step back and continues to violate human rights”, accusing Athens of violence, “even against women and children, by confiscating clothes and money of immigrants seeking entry into their country and confiscation of their valuables illegally. All of the above actions are contrary to international law”, appealing to Greece “which has not yet given an explanation for the drowned babies in the Aegean, to stop the inhumane treatment of migrants and the immigration policy that leads to deaths”, concluding in that Turkey as a country has adhered to international norms “even for irregular migrants without discriminating, following a humanitarian approach to our migration policy”.
