Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, held a joint press conference from inside the shelter

They met today in a shelter in Kiev the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias and His Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, as while he was at the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the meeting between the two men was in progress, the warning sirens sounded. They immediately headed to the shelter where they continued their conversation.

After the meeting, the two ministers held a joint press conference from the shelter.

“The city and the rest of the country are daily targets of violent attacks. As a result, dozens of unarmed, innocent people are killed and injured. Greece condemns these attacks, in the clearest way. These attacks constitute war crimes. I am here today to express the full solidarity of the Greek people and the Greek government to the Ukrainian government and the brave Ukrainian people. For Greece, respect for International Law, territorial integrity and the sovereignty of all peoples is the holy gospel of Greek foreign policy. From day one we condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine. We do not recognize the illegal annexation of the Ukrainian territories,” he said Nikos Dendias and added:

“Members of the Greek community in Mariupol are among the victims of the Russian attacks last February. These casualties are the result of a very long list of indiscriminate attacks against civilians launched by the Russian military. Greece is deeply committed to condemning Russian war crimes. I have written to the Court and visited it we will never forget the war crimes in Mariupol. We support the European Council’s decision to grant candidate country status to Ukraine. We have offered the port of Alexandroupoli as a hub for Allies who want to send aid. We effectively responded to the need of thousands of Ukrainians seeking safe haven away from the war.”

At the same time, Nikos Dendias ahe also referred to Turkey and their continued provocative behavior that shows. “The Greeks also have a great neighbor to our East. A neighbor who has issued a threat of war against us. A neighbor who calls for the demilitarization of our territories, while he himself is deploying strong forces opposite our borders. A neighbor who illegally claims that parts of our land belong to him. A neighbor who repeatedly says that he will come one night suddenly. A neighbor who says that if we don’t give in to his complaints we will have the fate of Ukraine. Our answer is simple. We are with Ukraine. We stand by Ukraine,” he said.

When Nikos Dendias was asked by a SKAI journalist about what he witnessed while visiting Ukraine, he said: “I am shocked by what I saw in Kyiv and the death of civilians. This is a war crime for us. I hope Russia’s defeat will be a signal against any revisionist effort.”

Kuleba: The Dendia visit is a message that nothing can break our will

For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba thanked Nikos Dendias and Greece for providing assistance in security matters, but also for humanitarian aid.

“I am happy to welcome Mr. Dendias in today’s difficult times. My Greek counterpart could not come for security reasons, but he did and that is an act of bravery and I thank him for that. The range of topics we discussed was wide, but there was an alarm and we were forced to go down to the basement. The visit of the high Greek official and today’s press conference at the shelter it is a message that nothing can break our will” the Ukrainian foreign minister pointed out.

“Freedom or death is an amazing slogan of the Greek Revolution and such a slogan was also present in the Ukrainian revolution in its heyday. The Greek people understand better than anyone else what the fight for freedom means” he emphasized and continued:

“I expressed gratitude for the assistance in security matters, but also for the humanitarian assistance. The most important thing is the weaponry that is now being delivered by Greece to Ukraine so that my country has the opportunity to protect its integrity. Today, the delivery of the BMB-1 armored vehicles beganhey thanks for the help. I raised some issues of military cooperation and specifically systems to strengthen Ukrainian air defense. Russia can launch as many missiles as it wants to send conscripts out of prisons but we will win and we will keep in our memory those who helped us”.

“I thanked Greece for its willingness to build the maternity hospital in Mariupol. We must join forces for the restoration of Odessa. I thank Greece for helping the Ukrainians in Greek territory” concluded the Ukrainian Foreign Minister.
