This week, on the 2nd of November, the new way of approaching the necessary goods for the average home will go into operation,” said Mr. Georgiadis.
Then the Minister of Development emphasized that “on Wednesday with the Deputy Minister of Development Nikos Papathanasis and with the services of the ministry we will check all the big supermarket chains. There we will compare the prices so that people can see the usefulness of the basket.”
“We will advertise the chains with the lowest prices and the checks will be intensive” promised the minister.
He then pointed out: “We are shielded for the controls and legislatively, especially legislatively, we have also received approval from the competition commissionwe are fully vested and embarking on a great effort.
Citizens will be able to find better prices in a supermarket space in a very difficult situation. We are fighting a great battle in extremely difficult conditions.”
He explained that no chain is prohibited from adding more than 50 products. “If he wants, he can put more spaghetti, beyond the number 6. He can do it. It is not mandatory to have 50, it can be more. It can’t be under 50.”
Also, he said that from Wednesday each supermarket will have its own basket, while a special site is being created for the household basket and there will be special marking on the products.
