The Minister of National Defense did not fail to mention the issues of the war in Ukraine, calling for preparedness and attention

“He inspires us and leads us to duty, so that we don’t forget the example of the heroes who fell for the country in 1940”, emphasized the Minister of National Defense, Nikos Panagiotopoulosduring the events in Eptachori of Kastoria in honor of Colonel Davakis who had his headquarters in the village and successfully repelled the Italian attacks in the first two days of the war.

“We are not only breathing the clean air of Pindos, we are also breathing the history of the region” noted the minister and added “these breaths are refreshing, at least for me who is coming for the first time”.

THE Minister of National Defense he made references to the issues of the equipment of the Armed Forces as well as the fighting qualities of the Greek army saying that “we get weapons at an unbearable cost but with an incalculable benefit, so that no one makes decisions against us, too much talking or staying in the rhetorical wilds only” .

He did not fail to mention the issues of the war in Ukraine, calling for preparedness and attention. “The world is developing in a dangerous way, not many of us believed that in 2022 a war would break out on European soil,” he noted, adding that “the war risks dragging the entire region into its vortex and even more.” He characterized the above as existing scenarios, expressing at the same time the expectation “that they will not arise and that the situation will be quickly defused”.

“We live in dangerous times”, stressed Nikos Panagiotopoulos “and not only the armed forces or the army, but all of us must be ready to face the difficult, not necessarily wars but crises such as economic and precision and climate change and there is no better way to be ready to face the difficult than to have a high spirit” he concluded.

The Regional Governor of Western Macedonia, Giorgos Kasidis, who organized the anniversary event in memory of the Officers and soldiers who fell in the first days of the 1940 war in the area of ​​Eptachori, emphasized that “the presence of the Military and political leadership of the Ministry of National Defense in the historic Eptachori where Colonel Davakis was wounded”.

Nikos Panagiotopoulos visited the Museum of Photography where over 600 photographic documents from the life of Davakis and other senior officers in Eptachori as well as from the front line are exhibited.

Finally, the minister also visited the monument in Zouzoulis where, on the second day of the war, Alexandros Diakos, the first officer of the Greek army, was mortally wounded.
