N. Panagiotopoulos: We continue to focus on the fight for better and more deterrent Armed Forces

The Minister of National Defense Nikos Panagiotopoulos spoke of the conscious decision of this government, the huge effort being made for more combat-worthy Armed Forces.

“We will continue concentrated, with every ounce of our strength, our efforts for even better, even more deterrent Armed forces”. This was emphasized by the Minister of National Defense, among others Nikos Panagiotopoulosspeaking on Saturday November 5, 2022 at an Air Force event on the occasion of the celebration of the Archangel Michael at the Concert Hall.

Referring to his recent visit to Ukraine, he spoke about the daily trials and “the drama of the civilian population” but also about the importance for every country “to have competent Armed Forces”.

“It is,” he said, “a conscious decision of this government to make a huge effort for a more combat-worthy Armed Forces.”

He explained that daily efforts are being made to modernize the Armed Forces, pointing out the close cooperation with the Chief of Defense Forces and the Chiefs of Air, Navy and Army General Staffs.

He also emphasized the “strategic importance” of the training center in Kalamata and the Air Force’s partnership with “the Israeli Air Force, one of the best in the world.”

The Chief of the General Staff of the National Defense General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros, in his greeting, emphasized that the Air Force is moving “based on perspective and vision”.

He also mentioned “the acquisition of the Rafale fighter jets, the upgrade of the F-16 fighter jets to the Viper version, the operation of the training center in Kalamata, the prospective acquisition of F-35 fighter jets” but also the staffing of the Air Force “with a new and talented staff”.

“They create,” he pointed out, “offering conditions for our airmen to continue the glorious tradition of their weapon.”

The Chief of the General Air Staff (GAA) Lieutenant General Themistocles Bourolias emphasized that the Air Force “has been called upon for decades, in a particularly demanding and challenging environment, to bear the greatest burden of resistance and deterrence”.

He clarified that the Air Force has entered “the next technological era” through a “massive but necessary equipment and upgrade program” with the aim of “maximizing deterrent power as well as operational effectiveness.”

The program of the event included a musical program with the Air Force band and the artists Melina Aslanidou, Anastasia Zanni and Vasilis Skoulas.

Children from critical regions of Greece, Evros, Kastellorizo ​​and Crete, were invited to the Concert Hall.

The event was attended by MPs, ambassadors, mayors, representatives of the Church and Local Government as well as members of the Armed Forces.
