Ambassador Tsounis for American Universities: What is happening today in Greece is a real miracle

Thirty leading US universities have officially signed the international academic cooperation program with Greece

“I am grateful for the support of the Mitsotakis government and for the spirit of cooperation it has shown since day one”stated Ambassador Tsounis in his speech during the Pharos Summit 2022. He also emphasized that “this Summit is the culmination of the work of the US in Greece to promote the ties between the peoples of Greece and the US for the common educational goals and the common vision for education” .

Referring to the historical value of Greek culture for the whole world, the ambassador said that “we owe ancient Greece so much and boundless gratitude. As the ancients taught us, wise people sow fruit even if they themselves will not be there when it grows. What is done today will benefit many generations in the future.”

Referring to the long-term horizon and sustainability of the initiative, Ambassador Tsounis excitedly stated: “I am grateful for the opportunity that my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will have one day and that they will be able to reap the benefits that this Synod guarantees. On behalf of the Tsunis family, thank you.”

The US Embassy has been working hard with her Greek government and the Ministry of Education to support the extroversion of the Greek education system. “We are proud to be the number 1 partner of the university community in Greece, while this Summit consolidates our cooperation.”

According to the Ambassador’s statement “for the American government, this initiative is a priority. The bilateral relationship between the US and Greece has never been stronger. I am proud that the Greek government approached the USA to give flesh and bones to one of the most important educational projects.”

“Our countries share democratic values ​​in education, democracy, social welfare and academic freedom. This Synod reinforces the effort to promote student mobility. Today we are making history.”

The Ambassador did not fail to emphasize the contribution of the Ministry of Education and the Minister personally Ms. Kerameos saying that “none of this would have happened without the tenacity of Minister Kerameos who managed to bring 30 American universities to Greece as part of this initiative”.

Among other things, today Greece is the answer to Europe’s energy crisis, as the country is a pioneer in renewable energy sources, the diversification of energy sources and the energy transition”, said the Ambassador, emphasizing the country’s geostrategic importance for peace and stability in the wider region.

In closing, the Ambassador referred to the decisive and distinctive role and contribution of the wife of Prime Minister Grabovski-Mitsotakis. “I know that she is not always given the credit she deserves, but I know first hand that many of the successes achieved today were thanks to the efforts of the First Lady, Mareva Mitsotakis. And I would like to thank her personally for being a beacon and a positive force in this country.”
