Tasoula, the legendary kidnapper who almost bloodied Crete, has “passed away”!

Anastasia Adamidou, nee Petrakogiorgi, died at the age of 92.

Yesterday, her funeral took place in a strictly family circle, according to what her niece, deputy mayor of Culture of the Municipality of Heraklion, Aristea Plevris, reported to Cretalive.

He was buried in the First Cemetery of Ag. Konstantinos in Heraklion, next to her own people, in the existing family grave, next to her parents, siblings and those she loved…

Tasoula was the central figure in the legendary kidnapping case that “wrote” history in modern Greece!

On August 20, 1950, Crete was threatened with bloodshed. Kostas, brother of the MP of the People’s Party, Manolis Kefalogiannis, stole the beautiful Tasoula, daughter of the Philelefther MP, Giorgis Petrakogiorgis, in Heraklion.

While the girl was leaving the “Oasis” cinema with her company, he grabbed her with five other gunmen and took her with a rented car and a driver to Psiloritis.

Over a thousand armed men, followers of Petrakogiorgis, are preparing to attack an equal number of armed Anogeans, followers of Kefalogiannis, to take back Tasoula.

Martial law was imposed in Crete and the kidnapper was declared a… “bandit”.

Two books were written about this much-lauded story. “The Kidnapping of Tasoula” by Tassos Kontogiannidis and “Speakless Deep Waters” by Rhea Galanakis.
