Arrived one hour late due to fog at Macedonia Airport
The Town Hall of Pydna – Kolindrou, in Aeginio, was the first stop of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his visit to the Regional Unit of Pieria.
The Prime Minister spoke with Mayor Anastasios Manolas about the needs of the region. The importance of the primary sector was emphasized during the discussion. “I think we have also proven in the primary sector that we can support our farmers and breeders and we will continue to do so,” the Prime Minister said, while pointing out that Macedonia more broadly can take advantage of the restructuring of supply chains and the trend towards bringing transport and storage activities back closer to Europe.
“There is a global trend on how we can regain control of supply chains. In other words, there will be logistics, companies that may want to leave – as the reason says – from China or from more neighboring countries and come closer to the markets of Europe, so that they are not dependent on countries with which we have a range of geopolitical issues. This opens up huge opportunities and possibilities for Macedonia as a whole and especially for areas that are close to the main axes. And here you are in the center, you are next to roads, next to trains, next to ports, next to an airport. It’s all here,” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
“We now have the new law on industrial parks as well, which was passed and which greatly simplifies the procedures. I think we will be able to start to see a further boom in manufacturing and industry and obviously logistics in the wider area – and why not the Municipality benefiting from that,” he added.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis also expressed his satisfaction for the imminent inclusion of the project “water supply infrastructure of the Municipality of Pydna – Kolindros” for the upgrade of the water supply system, amounting to approximately 4.5 million euros, to the “Antonis Tritsis” Program.
“Water is irrigation and water supply. As for water supply, it is unthinkable, in today’s age, not to have modern water supply networks. And that is why I am especially glad that the Minister found the space to include the upgrade of the water supply network in the “Tritsis” Program. Beyond that, irrigation water management systems will be a central political priority of our government, both now – as we have major irrigation projects in place – and in the future. We should think much more intelligently about how we use our water”, noted Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during the meeting held at the Town Hall of Pydna – Kolindros, stressing the challenges that climate change raises in this matter as well.
“The government has already helped us, but with further help – both now and in your next term – it will help us so that we can do even better”, said the Mayor of Pydna – Kolindrou.
The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Rural Development and Food Giorgos Georgantas, the Deputy Minister of the Interior in charge of Self-Government Affairs Stelios Petsas, the Deputy Minister of the Interior in charge of Macedonia-Thrace Affairs Stavros Kalafatis, the MPs of Pieria of the New Democracy Fundas Baraliakos, Anna Mani-Papadimitriou and Savvas Chionidis and the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office in Thessaloniki, Maria Antoniou.
“The best year of the last 15 years”
Kyriakos Mitsotakis then visited an agricultural unit in the area, where he was given a tour of the facilities and informed about the production process.
“We are in the best year in the last 15 years,” one of the plant’s owners told the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister also visited Kolindros, where he had the opportunity to walk the streets of the settlement and talk to residents.
