“We completely reject the statement by the EU’s External Relations Service today (November 12) that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) regarding its membership as an observer of the Organization of Turkic States.
The decision regarding the observer membership of the ᾽᾽TDBK᾽, one of the two states on the island of Cyprus, was unanimously taken at the Summit of the Organization of Turkic States held in Samarkand on November 11, 2022, in which our president participated.
As mentioned in the Declaration of the Summit, the Turkish Cypriots are an integral part of the Turkish world, it is their natural right to establish and develop relations with the Turkish states in every field.
The EU’s efforts to prevent the Turkish Cypriot people from being a respected member of the international community, against the call of the UN Secretary-General, are incompatible with goodwill and once again openly reveal the hypocrisy of the Union, which has become a prisoner of the vicious policies of the Greek Cypriot administration (Republic of Cyprus) and Greece.
“A just, permanent and sustainable solution on the island of Cyprus can only be achieved after a process that will begin with the registration of the acquired sovereignty and equality of international status of the Turkish Cypriot people, which has been usurped since 1963. For this, the international community should abandon its attitude that sees the Greek Cypriot side as the sole owner of the island and recognize the ᾽᾽TDBK᾽. Turkey will continue to stand by the Turkish Cypriots and be the voice of the Turkish Cypriots on all international platforms.”
