Parliament: At the end of next week the bill for the EYP

With the changes proposed in the public consultation incorporated, the bill for the EYP is to be submitted, as the Speaker of the Parliament, Kostas Tasoulas, informed the parliamentary editors.

Thus, the filing of the bill will be delayed a few days and will be submitted for processing to the competent parliamentary committee at the end of next week.

Responding to a related question, Mr. Tasoulas stated that he agrees with the provision, which stipulates that the President of the Parliament approves the request to monitor a political person. He also made it clear that he is removing his original concern about whether his intervention should take place before or after that of the judges.

During today’s Conference of Presidents, SYRIZA requested that the meeting of the Committee on Institutions and Transparency, which will take place at 12 noon next Monday, be public, on the grounds that the four persons who have been invited cannot invoke confidentiality , as they are private. The official opposition party expressed the opinion that they must come to the meeting and that their examination by memorandum cannot be accepted and therefore, in the event that they do not come, it will ask the Commission to order their violent arrest.

However, parliamentary sources say that the Committee does not have the right, under the Rules of the House, to order the forcible arraignment, as it is not a witness examination process, but a hearing process.
