The background, the suggestions to Mitsotakis and the interpretations from the polls of the party staffs about the situation that is taking shape
By ANTONIS ANZOLETOU
“It smells like an election.” This is what he said Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Kallithea and sounded the alarm once again. The “bells” are constantly ringing for the MPs and officers of the New Democracy who are called to be ready. The Prime Minister from London called even the expatriates to register in the lists to come to the electoral screens, insisting that he will exhaust his constitutional mandate. The messages, of course, also reach the entire opposition, which now believes that from the moment the new year arrives, anything is possible. In 2023, it is considered very likely that a new round of proposals to Kyriakos Mitsotakis to accelerate political developments will begin. The budget will have been passed and the government’s legislative work will have been largely completed. There are quite a few executives who also see March positively, as in no case could it be considered an early appeal to the polls. Possibly the Christmas holiday period will be a catalyst for the prime minister to make his final decisions.
The political landscape is confusing. The clear lead of New Democracy is not in doubt, however the latest opinion polls show a phase difference. Some “meet” with difficulty based on the limits of statistical error. Each “camp” makes its own interpretations. THE Pulse on behalf of SKAI showed the intention to vote by reducing the valid ones to 7%. Metron Analysis, in its vote estimate for MEGA, raised the difference to over 10 points (8% voting intention), while the vote intention estimate for PRORATA on behalf of EF.SYN reduced the gap to 5%.
In the majority, what they appreciate from the qualitative data of the opinion polls is that the monitoring has not caused the great damage that the entire opposition wanted. It is the fields of precision, energy and, in general, dealing with crises in which it has gained points New Democracy and personally the prime minister with the reflexes he has shown. And of course they appreciate that the “Mitsotakis or Tsipras” dilemma works in favor of the blue faction.
The fact that in the Pulse poll Alexis Tsipras appeared even marginally more reliable than the prime minister in matters of transparency is evaluated very positively in Koumoundourou. They estimate that the large price increases together with the monitoring will cumulatively cause damage to New Democracy in the next period. And you can SYRIZA to appear “suspicious” of the opinion polls, yet what they note is the steady if slight ongoing deterioration of the ruling faction. The big question is what way will Alexis Tsipras’ party find to become the “reservoir” that will begin to accept the disappointed public of the New Democracy, as well as the anti-right-wing centrist voters. The Political Secretariat is scheduled to convene on Wednesday to discuss political developments and the meeting will be repeated next week in order to approve the names that have been “locked” for the ballots. Until December 20, it is planned to announce the names of the parliamentary candidates.
PASOK has also entered election readiness. On December 10-11, the Central Committee of the party is expected to meet where a large part of the candidates will be announced. At the same meeting, the main programmatic axes will be presented and the consultation with the party base will begin. The KKE seems to play very strongly in the “field” of real estate auctions, building a very strong movement and declaring next to any citizen who is at risk of losing his home.
