Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a telephone conversation with his Italian counterpart today on Wednesday Georgia Meloniwhom he congratulated on assuming her duties.
During the conversation, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Mrs. Meloni proceeded to a brief overview of bilateral relations, while emphasizing the prospects of strengthening cooperation and coordination in areas of mutual interest, such as the energy crisis and Immigration, as well as the common challenges faced by Greece and Italy as Mediterranean countries.
They also agreed on a continuous and meaningful exchange of views on issues of mutual interest within the framework of the European Union, in view of the next European Council on 15 December. Finally, they agreed to meet as soon as possible.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis was among the political leaders of the states who expressed their congratulations to the Italian Prime Minister on assuming her duties in October.
“Warm congratulations to Italy’s new Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. We look forward to it to work closely together for the benefit of our Euro-Atlantic family and the stability of our region” the prime minister said on Twitter.
Georgia Meloni responded to Mr. Mitsotakis’ congratulatory message, stating: “Thank you Mr. Prime Minister. Italy and Greece they are cradles of culture, our bilateral cooperation and our contribution to the EU and NATO are crucial for the stability of the Mediterranean region. Ready to work with you!”.
