Accepted by the governing majority, from the plenary session of the Parliament, the bill of the Ministry of Health on secondary care.

At the request of SYRIZA, PASOK-Movement of Change and KKE to hold a roll-call vote (on the principle and on the disputed articles that provide for the possibility of employment of NHS doctors in the private sector, and the announcement of NHS doctor positions with part-time status), on 297 voters, 156 ND MPs voted “yes”, while 141 opposition MPs voted “no”.

Closing the two-day debate, Deputy Health Minister Asimina Gaga had said that the goal of a health system is not the full and exclusive employment of doctors, but safe services. Mrs. Gaga said that the system has been failing for years and the answer is not the 2,000 euro salary for doctors proposed by SYRIZA: “We gave 2,000 euro tax-free and very few came. The financial is not the first motivation, but the specialization of work, the freedom and the dignity that a doctor can have,” said Mrs. Gaga, referring to the possibility given to NHS doctors to practice private work up to two afternoons a week .

Ms Gaga, who called on all forces to vote for the bill, said that even if they did not “the bill will pass, and it will be good for society”. He also expressed the belief that the next government will again be that of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, which will continue to consistently and firmly stand by every citizen, every doctor and every worker in the National Health System.
