The President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, was visited at 13:00 at the Presidential Palace by Nikos Androulakis. Mr. Androulakis thanked the President of the Republic who had congratulated him on his election, however the half-hour meeting was not only ceremonial, but also had substantive content.

At the end of the meeting, the newly elected president of the Movement for Change stated how he discussed with Ms. Sakellaropoulou the effort to reorganize the democratic faction, as a faction of the European Social Democracy, with a modern program that will meet the great challenges facing the country.

He also informed the President of the Republic about his initiative to raise the issue of arms embargo against Turkey at yesterday’s Summit of the European Socialist Party. “It is inconceivable for a country, which violates the sovereign rights of neighboring European countries, but is also a factor of instability in the wider region from the South Caucasus to the Middle East, to be equipped by European states,” Androulakis said.

He added that he told Ms. Sakellaropoulou that he considers it very important to have an understanding and a synthesis of views on major issues concerning the Western Balkans. “It is crucial for all parties at this time to think that the stability of the region is very critical,” he said.

Finally, he said that he discussed with the President of the Republic “the big bet of the Recovery Fund that will judge to a great extent how our country will face the new inequalities, the energy crisis and the side effects of the pandemic”. “This money must be used properly, with meritocracy and transparency,” said the new president of the Movement for Change and PASOK.

“It is very crucial to improve the vaccination program of our country to save human lives,” said the president of the Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, after completing his visit to Sotiria Hospital.

The new president of KINAL criticized the government because it has not taken the necessary decisions to support the Public Health System as it should under the current conditions of the pandemic. “Mr. Mitsotakis can not hide his enormous responsibilities behind extreme and condemnable statements of members of the opposition,” said Nikos Androulakis, commenting sharply on the removal of Mr. Kouroumblis.

He also said that the data presented to him are revealing about the limited scope of the vaccination program which results in the ICU of Sotiria being the most unvaccinated. He cited Portugal’s success in announcing the Movement for Change campaign on the usefulness of vaccinations.

“We, as a party of responsibility, are launching a new public information campaign to break the fear and misinformation about the vaccine. We need more people in our country to take the initiative, to support them, to understand that the value of defending human life is a daily battle. I find it inconceivable to accept that every day it will be normal for a Greek village to be lost. We need to do more with understanding, prudence and planning. “And this is primarily the responsibility of the government, but also the responsibility of all of us who really want to turn the page and have a better possible response to the pandemic in our country”, underlined Mr. Androulakis.
