Tsipras: The monitoring of ED leaders puts national security at risk

“I want to hope and I hope that in this country the institutions of democracy still work” said the president of SYRIZA

The president of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, visited today the prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Mr. Isidoros Dogiako, on the occasion of the latest revelations about the surveillance scandal.

After his meeting with the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Mr. Tsipras made the following statement to the representatives of the press:

“I expressed to the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court my deep concern about the developments.

The revelations of the last few months about the transformation of the EYP into a temporary paracenter monitoring of political leaders, parliamentarians, MEPs, ministers, journalists, businessmen and even judges is a great blow to democracy itself, it puts it at risk.

Monitoring the heads of the Armed Forces puts our very national security at risk.

We all have a responsibility not to let this heavy shadow hover over our political system but also over the country’s armed forces.

We all know that the sole responsibility for the search for evidence and evidence, the clearing up of this smelly case, the sole responsibility for shedding ample light rests with the Greek Justice.

And we all know where the facts and evidence are.

Where, based on the law, records of the provisions and monitoring orders are required to be kept by the EYP and of course to those who signed the provisions and monitoring orders.

I want to hope and I hope that in this country the institutions of democracy still work.

And I want to conclude by expressing my confidence in the institution of the Greek Justice”.
