A relevant amendment was submitted to the bill of the Ministry of the Interior that regulates issues of the Municipal Police and public markets
The increase in the compensation of the municipal councilors is provided for by an amendment, which was submitted on Friday night, to the bill of the Ministry of the Interior which regulates issues of the Municipal Police and public markets.
The specific bill will be put up for discussion and voting in the plenary session of the Parliament next Monday, 12/12/2022.
As stated in the analysis of the regulatory consequences of the amendment, “it is considered appropriate to increase the compensation of municipal councilors for their participation in the meetings of the collective body, in order to cope with the high cost of travel, taking into account the preparatory actions that must be carried out, after in fact, the long period of holding the meetings of the municipal councils through teleconferences and on tour”.
According to the accompanying report of the State General Accountant, the way of calculating the compensation of the members of the municipal council, except for those who receive remuneration, for their participation in the meetings of the municipal council is redefined.
Particularly:
It is stipulated that the amount of compensation for the above, for each meeting, cannot exceed the amount corresponding to 1.3% (instead of the current 1%) of the remuneration of the Mayor of Athens and is charged to the budget of the relevant OTA.
Compensation is also established for the municipal councilors elected in the Municipalities of Athens, Piraeus and Thessaloniki of the designated electoral districts as well as for the municipal councilors whose residence is less than 10 km from the municipal community that hosts the seat of the Municipality. (Today, no compensation is foreseen for the aforementioned.) The amount of said compensation cannot exceed the amount corresponding to 70% of the 1.3% of the remuneration of the Mayor of Athens and is charged to the budget of the relevant o.t.a.
