Eva Kaili and her partner were arrested – her father is free, says Le Soir

An arrest warrant was issued for Eva Kaili, while according to the Belgian newspaper Le Soir, her father was released.

Earlier, the announcement by the Belgian prosecutor’s office spoke of four arrests as part of investigations into the corruption case without giving specific names. SKAI’s correspondent in Brussels, Efi Koutsokosta, pointed out that Eva Kaili is among those arrested. The arrests were made for “participation in a criminal organization, money laundering and corruption”, as stated in the announcement.

The vice-president of the European Parliament, Eva Kaili, suspected of being involved in a corruption ring involving current and former MEPs, aides and other public figures from the European environment in Brussels, was brought in on Friday, Le Soir newspaper reports, adding that she was then taken in hearing. Her partner, Francesco Giorgi, parliamentary aide, had also been referred to a hearing. At the end of this detention, the period of which could not exceed 48 hours, Mrs. Kaili was arrested, accused of corruption, money laundering and participation in a criminal organization, according to Le Soir and Knack magazine.

Her partner has also been charged and an arrest warrant issued and at his expense, as well as for the former S&D MEP Pierre Antonio Pancheri, the newspaper points out by adding that F., a Brussels lobbyist who was brought in on Friday, also remains in jail.

As for Eva Kaili’s father, who was caught with a suitcase full of cash leaving a Brussels hotel, he has been released, while Luca Visentini, general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation, has been released on condition, according to Le Soir.

Earlier, the prosecutor’s statement said that two people had been released, but did not specify which.

At the same time, an investigation was carried out yesterday (Saturday) evening at the home of the Belgian MEP, Marc Tarabella, as reported by the same newspaper and Knack magazine. They note that his mobile phone and computer were confiscated, the whole process was done in the presence of the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. When asked why the President of the European Parliament was present, the representative of R. Metsola, Yuri Laas, answered the following:
