Former EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship clarifies his involvement
With reference to publications about the Fight Impunity Organization, the former Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship in the European Union, Dimitris Avramopoulos, clarifies the following in his statement:
“I was invited to participate at the beginning of 2020 as a member of the Organization’s honorary advisory board, together with leading international figures such as the former High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission Federica Mogherini, the former Prime Minister of France Bernard Cazeneuve, the Italian Senator and former Commissioner Emma Bonino, the Nobel laureate Denis Mukwege, the former MEP Cecilia Wikstrom et al. After a year I stopped having any participation in the committee. The committee had no executive or management authority. Before accepting the invitation to participate, as a former Commissioner I requested approval from the European Commission, which I received, with its decision, number C(2021) 9002. Together with all the members, we resigned as soon as it became known that an investigation had been launched for Mr. Panzeri, last Friday night, surprised at what became known about the founder of Fight Impunity”.
