What the president of SYRIZA said about football, but also the scandal that shakes Europe – The decision to go to the World Cup in Qatar is negative and self-degrading, he said in an interview

The President of SYRIZA gave a different interview to betarades, the well-known sports channel on YouTube Alexis Tsiprastalking about his relationship with football, the World Cup, the decision for Qatar to host this major football event, but also the Qatarqate.

Alexis Tsipras called the decision to move the World Cup to Qatar negative and self-degrading, as this is how football and FIFA are going backwards. He emphasized that in a country without a football tradition and above all in a country without any freedom, other kinds of selfishness are finally rewarded, which we have seen come to light in the last few days.

Referring to Qatargate, he underlined that instead of excluding Croatia, Kaili was eliminated. He also noted that the choice of Qatar is inherently suspicious.
Regarding the preparation of the event, he pointed out that 8 stages were built in galley conditions with 6500 workers dead and underestimating every concept of human rights. And he made it clear that the world community and the football community cannot leave it like this. He also added that we may see football, but we also live in a world and therefore we should see injustice, human rights and labor rights.
So Alexis Tsipras pointed out that when all this happens, telling us that Qatar is a pioneer country in labor rights “makes you crazy” and he added saying: “you see why they were said and you get angry”.

Regarding whether he would go to see a match in Qatar, the President of SYRIZA commented that “you cannot put an embargo on the joy and enjoyment of football, but I would not legitimize this particular World Cup by being there.”
Speaking about the sporting event itself, he said that it is a World Cup with surprises, while he described the match between Argentina and the Netherlands as a “match”.. He also made a special mention of Morocco which, he said, had dealt with all the colonialists and won them over. He estimated that Argentina will go to the final and that the god of football owes this to Messi who is with “we”, with the team, and not with “I”. This is the big difference between Messi and Ronaldo, he said.

Alexis Tsipras still remembered earlier World Cups and referred to his relationship with football and sports.
“I remember from ’82. I was 8 years old. Italy – Germany final. I was in a holiday place that also had a lot of Germans and for a break I was with Italy and we won. The Italians who were there gave me an Antonioni shirt with number 10”, he said and added that ’86 “was the year of the god of the ball, Diego”.
Regarding the team he supports, he said: “I am Argentine and not Brazilian, perhaps because Panathinaikos had very important Argentinian players. And now for Messi who is with the team and can score goals from where you least expect it.”
Alexis Tsipras revealed that he plays 5×5 and basketball with friends and now with his children and said that he used to play ball behind the Panathinaikos stadium, in the arena where he learned to ball Domazos.
He noted that during the days of SYRIZA there was an indisputable attempt to clean up Greek football in our days and recalled that Thyra 13 demonstrated outside his house. “It has become bad in our country that sportsmen want to influence politics,” he said.
Regarding fan violence, he said that stadiums are a microcosm of society and that everyday violence reaches the stadiums as well. He estimated that it is convenient for the authorities to defuse the tension in places without political costs instead of demonstrations and mobilizations. Speaking about those responsible for the phenomena of violence, he noted that everyone has a responsibility: the schools for how children are educated, the state for the rules in the playing fields, the behaviors of the sports players, the teams for the uncontrollable armies of fans, but also the the fan movement itself.
“My dream is for fans of different teams to sit next to each other in the stadiums,” he underlined.
Regarding the position he would give to the current prime minister in a possible football match, he said that he would not put “Mitsotakis at all” in an 11 with politicians and would not assign ministries to sportsmen because today, as he said emphatically, “the problem is that they assign ministries”.
He also added that “if you get along with the media owners, you can do whatever you want” is a problem in the country.
Referring to Kostas Fragoulis, he noted that “the lives of the Roma are equally worth it”, while he described the issues of democratization and education as a big blow for the Greek police.
He emphasized that the feeling of Justice must become dominant in Greek society and that the citizens feel that the state works for everyone and with rules.
On the question of wiretapping, he commented that “the Mitsotakis family respects the customs” and that the scandal, in addition to how crucial it is for the Republic, affects the individual right to privacy, although he did not feel personally insecure about it because “I don’t have to hide nothing”, as he characteristically stated.
Speaking about the new generation he said that he is very interested in their concerns, even if he doesn’t understand the words they use, he is interested in those who fill a stadium for Lex. He noted that apolitical slogans ultimately do not bother the authorities.
Regarding involvement in politics, he admitted that when someone is in a position of responsibility and in power, he loses personal time and time from his family, but “it is important to feel that you are doing useful things for society that improve people’s lives.”
Finally, he said he wasn’t betting on an ethical treatment of these issues, but even in betting terms he predicted the metrics would fall out in the election.
