Mitsotakis from Brussels: The Spyrakis case is serious, I will be informed in Athens

Optimistic that next Monday, December 19, the energy ministers of the E.U. will reach a decision on the imposition of a ceiling on the wholesale price of natural gas, appeared the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, answering questions from journalists after the work of the European Council. Mr. Mitsotakis estimated that this will be a decision in harmony with the Greek aspirations and insisted that there is a universal understanding that time cannot be closed and we can refer the issue to the future.

Asked about his speech the following day in the context of the debate in the Parliament on the Budget, Mr. Mitsotakis, after clarifying that he appears consistent in his commitment to the exhaustion of the 4-year period, emphasized that he will specify his vision for the next 4 years , insisting that citizens should know the plans of the parties.

Asked about Qatargate, the prime minister spoke of a very unpleasant story and very serious complaints, adding that he would avoid comments. Subsequently, he again attacked the president of PASOK, Nikos Androulakis, stressing that “I will not accept Kaili’s charge in New Democracy, as he is a perennial member of PASOK”. In response to a question about the lifting of the immunity of ND MEP Maria Spyrakis, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said: “This is a very serious matter. I don’t have the full picture right now. I will return to Athens, study the matter and answer.”

Asked about the Turkish reaction to the Egyptian initiative to unilaterally delimit the EEZ with Libya, Kyriakos Mitsotakis reminded that Greece and Egypt have partially demarcated their maritime zones, an agreement which, he said, is compatible with International Law and it is recognized by everyone, in contrast to the Turkish-Libyan memorandum, which everyone considers invalid. Finally, when asked about the US deflation law, the Prime Minister explained that we cannot stand still and watch European companies move to the US. He announced that the European Council instructed the Commission to come with proposals by the end of January. “If we do not move quickly, we will be faced with the problem of European deindustrialization. I insist that we have to increase the European response, that is, put more money on the table.”
