by

The ND MEP, Maria Spyrakis, is expected to request the suspension of her party status today, following the European Attorney General’s request to lift her immunity.

Speaking this morning at Open, he said that “today I will request the suspension of my party status” and added “I don’t want there to be shadows”.

Ms. Spyraki stated that “I have accepted that the removal of my immunity proceed quickly and with summary procedures. It is very important that he proceed immediately.”

“I ask that it proceed immediately and without going through the competent Committee. With summary procedures (…). In any case, the discussion will take place at the Plenary Session in January, but I want this case to end as soon as possible,” he said.

Speaking to ERT, she explained that the case concerns her former partner, who was absent on several occasions, while receiving an allowance for work abroad. This responsibility falls on the natural person himself, but also on the member of parliament.”

The prime minister called the case serious yesterdayKyriakos Mitsotakis, saying that he will be informed as soon as he returns to Athens from Brussels.

Asked about this by a journalist, the prime minister replied: “This is a very serious matter. I don’t have the full picture right now. I will return to Athens, study the matter and answer.”

Yesterday it became known that in the research report by European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) there are suspicions of fraud against the EU budget, in relation to the management of parliamentary compensation, and in particular with regard to the remuneration of accredited parliamentary assistants.

Maria Spyrakis made the following statement to APE regarding the European General Prosecutor’s request to lift her immunity: “I gladly accept the request to lift my immunity in order to make it clear that I do not have a single euro of financial difference with the European Parliament. The matter concerns the allowance of my ex-foreign colleague, who faced a serious personal problem and had some absences from the meeting place of the European Parliament. I have nothing to do with Qatargate, I have nothing to do with any other case.”
