The government spokesman clarified that the prime minister will not announce elections today, but will present a plan for the next four years
“It was an unpleasant development,” the government representative Yannis Oikonomou told SKAI, referring to the case of Maria Spyrakis, while adding that “until it is clarified what has happened, her status has been suspended. As long as the suspension lasts, she will not be a candidate with New Democracy. We must be clear and direct to the world.”
At the same time, Mr. Economou added that the government was not informed about the investigation into Ms. Spyrakis: “We were not informed about the investigation. We believe that Ms. Spyraki will be vindicated in the end. We moved so that political opponents are not given the right to speculate. Let’s separate the cases. It has nothing to do with qatargate. Let’s not identify and lump disparate things together.”
Referring to the surprise measure that Mr. Mitsotakis will announce today in the budget debate, he emphasized that “all government interventions are done to cover as many people as possible. In today’s speech, we expect the prime minister to recall the difficult course of the last three years. What he will say, will be integrated into a wider plan, will signal what we will be able to achieve in the next four years. To converge the quality of life of the Greeks with the European one”.
Also, Mr. Economou made it clear that “there will be no elections tonight”, while in case of a motion of censure by Alexis Tsipras, he replied that “then within 4 days we will get a vote of confidence. One with the motion of censure and one with the passing of the budget.”
Regarding the Qatargate scandal and the involvement of Mrs. Eva Kaili, the government representative, when asked if they wanted her in ND, replied:
“Of course not. What Mr. Androulakis did is unprecedented. Did you hear anyone from ND say that it is a matter of PASOK and that all of you in PASOK are thieves and corrupt? No. Androulakis came out the other day apparently panicked and says that he is a Trojan Horse of ND while he has been in PASOK for so many years since 2014 to try to shift the problem to another political area. And a supplement to this comes and deletes some posts he had on social media. Mr. Androulakis is instrumentalizing the case of Ms. Kailis.”
