The Commission will verify whether the activities of D. Avramopoulos in the Pantseri NGO were legal with the conditions

The representative of the Commission, Eric Mamer, stated that the Commission has initiated internal procedures to verify whether the activities of the former Commissioner, Dimitris Avramopoulos, in the context of the NGO Fight Impunity, were lawful with the conditions imposed on him by the Commission.

“Mr. Avramopoulos is an honorary member of this organization and was authorized by the Commission for this activity on February 3, 2021, following the opinion of the independent ethics committee in December 2020,” said the same representative.

Asked about the remuneration of Mr. Avramopoulos from the NGO in question, Eric Mamer replied that he does not know and that the Commission has never referred to his remuneration. “It is not for the Commission to say what the remuneration received from this organization may be. However, I would strongly recommend asking him,” said Eric Mamer.

“We are just verifying that he complied with the restrictions placed on the authorization we gave him, including that he was not to contact the Commission on behalf of this NGO,” the Commission spokesman added, noting that “at present we have no indication of the opposite”.
