“After the summer, Nikos Androulakis had informed Irace Garcia in successive meetings about Eva Kaili’s non-participation in the European ballot papers of the next elections, without giving further clarifications,” a source from Irace Garcia’s office told EURACTIV.

After the summer, the President of PASOK Nikos Androulakis in successive meetings had informed the head of the Eurosocialists Irace Garcia that Eva Kaili would not be a candidate, the office of the President of the Socialists confirmed to EURACTIV.

“After the summer, Nikos Androulakis had informed Irace Garcia in successive meetings about the non-participation of Eva Kaili in the European ballot papers of the next elections, without giving further clarification,” a source from Irace Garcia’s office told EURACTIV.

The source said that the Eurosocialists had noticed some “strange” movements on her part Eva Kailihowever, “we could not have imagined the revelations coming to light.”

The meeting that never happened

The first complaint against Kaili, according to the source, came from the German MEP (SPD) Birgit Sippelwhich participated in the “ghost” vote of the LIBE committee, where Kayli voted without being a member.

“He did not inform anyone in the socialist party about this vote, not even our coordinator,” the source said.

Immediately after the vote and when they realized that there was the above vote of Kaili, the German Siepel, who voted against the Commission’s proposal for visa liberalization for Qatar, made an internal complaint to the leadership of the Eurosocialists.

“The complaint was about why Kaylee was there, and secondly, what she voted for,” the source said.

“Irace Garcia had scheduled a meeting at the EU Parliament in Strasbourg on December 13 with Kaili to explain why she was present at that committee and, above all, why she was involved in the voting process,” the source from the office told EURACTIV of Garcia.

However, the meeting never took place as Kaili was arrested over the Qatar scandal.

Another incident that surprised the Eurosocialists, according to the source, was when the Greek MEP broke the S&D line on the choice of the next secretary of the European Parliament and voted for the center-right EPP candidate Alessandro Ciocetti.

The source underlined that a closed meeting of the S&D took place in which the Socialist MEPs “sang it” to Kaili.
