At a meeting of the armaments committee held yesterday at the Presidential Palace, issues related to the addition of new weapons systems were discussed, while the Turkish president requested the mass production of the Tayfun ballistic missile.
As Turkey accuses Greece of militarizing the islands, it announces a series of weapons programs, with systems aimed at its neighbors and, indeed, a NATO ally.
At a meeting of the armaments committee held yesterday at the Presidential Palace under the presidency of Erdogan, issues related to the addition of new weapons systems were discussed, while the Turkish president requested the mass production of the Tayfun ballistic missile.
Besides, Erdogan has recently threatened repeatedly to hit Greece with Tayfun.
As the SKAI correspondent broadcasts from Istanbul, Manolis KostidisTurkey will “run” 25 armament programs: among them – apart from the Tayfun – three frigates, Turkish-made anti-aircraft systems, an anti-ship missile and missiles are in Ankara’s plans.
An upset for Menendez
Huge irritation prevails in Turkey due to the statements of Bob Menendez against Ankara and Erdogan, with the Turkish media noting that “Menendez states that the USA supports Greece”.
His presenter Haber Global he said: “Bob Menendez is basically saying to Greece ‘don’t worry, the US is with you’ and on the F-16 issue he said ‘no matter what, I will block their sale”.
Haber Global reported: “Bob Menendez took out of context the statements of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who had declared that ‘if Greece does not sit quietly we will hit Athens with the Tayfun missile. Bob Menendez, without referring to Greece’s provocations, accused Turkey of threatening a NATO member country.
In addition, Turkish analysts repeat his positions Mevlut Cavusoglu that “the islands were militarized and no longer belong to Greece”
The center analyst ASAM, Erai Gützluer reported: “The status of the Aegean has not been clearly defined, according to international law. That’s what we say. Turkey has started a more active policy. Because Greece has militarized the islands which should be demilitarized. This is what the Lausanne and Paris treaties say, so these islands no longer belong to Greece. So geologically and geographically there is a need to redefine the regime”.
Besides, yesterday the Turkish Ministry of Defense claimed that Greek fighters locked Turkish fighters with their radars.
The ATV reported the following: “While the aircraft were flying over the international airspace, fighters took off from five Greek air bases and locked the Turkish fighters with their radars.”
