Mitsotakis in the ministry: the market pass annoyed the leftists of the caviar and the luxury liberals

The prime minister noted that New Democracy is a faction that wants both public and private preemption

Spears to the opposition for criticism of the grocery shopping subsidy measure, talking about caviar leftists but luxury liberals, left Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in his proposal to the cabinet.

Mr. Mitsotakis noted that they are not burdensome the public debt the resources available for the support of society and especially for the market pass, he said that it is not a pre-election counter-gift, he spoke of easy, but at the same time contradictory criticism.

We are a faction that wants both public and private advancement, he noted.

The prime minister referred extensively to the government’s parliamentary work, noting that it is characterized by richness and scope.

The goal, he said, is the steady progress of Greece for a better life, while in closing he wished happy holidays, health, strength and “a little rest, to recharge batteries for a difficult and hopeful 2023”.

The full text of the Prime Minister’s statement follows:

We are meeting today in our regular meeting, while the Parliament already has the regulation that provides for the coverage by the State of 10% of the expenses of almost every Greek household for the purchases of basic needs. It is another mound in the imported precision, which shows the willingness of the government to support the average income until we get out of the clearing and out of this international crisis.

I hope, in the end, this measure will also be voted by the opposition. Not only because it is an additional support after electricity and fuel subsidies, the expanded heating allowance, the “Household Basket” for the most vulnerable. But because it is an important measure that also concerns the middle class, returning to society a significant part of the surplus income of the most powerful. That is, from the refineries to the citizens.

And I insist on the double dimension of this initiative, as I have heard comments so contradictory that they practically contradict each other. Why can’t the 650 million be both “crumbs” and “excessive” at the same time? A policy that concerns 85% of families cannot be considered subsidized. Nor, of course, should a temporary measure of defense in emergency crises be compared with the pre-election “counter-gifts” of other times.

And I’m afraid that these frivolous approaches just reveal the analytical weakness of the “caviar leftists”, as they are called, but also of some “luxury liberals” in our country.

The former will have to learn sometime that a center-right government must be on the side of society when it is tested. There is no prosperity if it is not collective.

But also the latter, it is time to understand that the fair redistribution of national wealth does not compete with either growth or fiscal balance. Much more so when we are talking here about resources which do not, I will say it again, do not burden the public debt. And which, I repeat, come with a time-specific plan to deal with emergencies like a global upheaval

All this, then, to avoid easy criticism, but also to highlight the dual mission of this government: on the one hand, to lead development, as recently recognized by the Economist, who ranked us as the champion of the most pleasant economic surprise worldwide for 2022. At the same time, however, to support the citizens, because we are a popular faction. We are a faction of both public and individual advancement. In other words, we are a truly progressive faction.

And I think these elements also run through our rich agenda today. From this I would like to highlight the account of our three years of digital experience, as well as two important health bills, which regulate important challenges of our time.

And all this while the “My Home” program was voted yesterday in Parliament, an important project with a social stamp, as it concerns affordable housing for 137,000 of our fellow citizens. Unfortunately, without the votes of the opposition, which here too showed itself to be far from an important social initiative, but without at the same time proposing any substantial alternative. Proving once again that we are the only faction that finally talks to society, when some others repeat stereotypes that seem to come from other times.

Now, regarding the digital transition, I think that what we will hear is more or less known, but it is worth remembering that when in the summer of 2019 I asked “how many are the electronic services of the State”, practically no one knew how to answer us .

The Minister of State (Giorgos Gerapetritis), who is absent as he is sick, reminded me that we have already voted, since July 2019, 375 laws, 131 in 2022 alone. I think it is a record year.

But, of course, our work continues. And until we go to the elections at the end of the four years, we still have a very rich parliamentary work for 2023.

Surely, however, everything is in the same direction. All our action is in the same direction: the steady progress of Greece for a better life for Greek men and women.

So, I wish you happy holidays, health, strength, mental and physical health, a little rest, let’s all charge our batteries for a difficult but at the same time hopeful 2023.
