German press: Kaili’s partial confession

What the German press reports about Eva Kaili and Qatargate

“Deposed European Parliament Vice-President Eva Kaili, who is suspected of corruption, made a partial confession before her arrest. This is according to the arrest warrant cited by the newspapers Le Soir and La Repubblica on Tuesday,” Frankfurter Allgemeine reports.

“The defendant admits that she instructed her father to hide money. Kylie also stated that she knew about the cooperation of her husband Francesco J. with the former MEP Pantseri “from the past” and how “suitcases with banknotes were passing through her apartment. (…) After the arrest of her partner, Kaili tried to “warn” Pancheri and two other unnamed MEPs, according to the arrest warrant.

“Eva Kaili’s Belgian lawyer was outraged that details of the investigation were again made public. Kaili’s defense strategy is likely to be based on the position that there is no connection between her political action and the money found in her apartment,” Süddeutsche Zeitung publishes in its turn, also pointing out that “a name that is mentioned again and again it is that of the Belgian MEP Marc Tarabella.

Like Kaili, she belongs to the social democratic group for which Georgi also worked. Pierre Antonio Pancheri accused Tarabella of accepting “gifts” from Qatar, as reported by the newspapers Le Soir and La Repubblica. The Belgian MEP has already publicly denied this several times.”

Finally, “the General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation, Luca Vizentini, also admitted receiving 50,000 euros from the organization. The money was earmarked for his election campaign for the position of leader he has held since November. Vizentini is not in custody but has to wear an ankle bracelet,” reports FAZ.
