Russia views the Ukrainian president’s visit to Washington negatively
“Nothing good will come of the Ukrainian’s trip,” he predicts Kremlin referring to President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Washington.
In a teleconference with journalists, the representative of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov said that Russia saw no possibility of peace talks with Kyiv, estimating that continued arms shipments from the West to Ukraine would lead to “aggravation” of the conflict — something that could backfire on Kyiv, he warned.
“The supply of weapons continues and the range of weapons supplied is expanding. All this, of course, leads to an aggravation of the conflict. This does not bode well for Ukraine,” Peskov said.
Zelensky is expected to meet US President Joe Biden and congressional leadership today in his first trip abroad since Moscow sent tens of thousands of troops to his country on February 24.
Asked if Moscow expects anything positive to come out of Zelensky’s trip, Peskov replied: “No.”
During his visit, the US is also expected to approve the delivery of advanced Patriot missile systems to Ukraine as part of a new military aid package to Kyiv.
